Observers: Allen & Robin Austin, Baron & Tina Gibson,
Bill & Katie James, Dillard Childress
Visitors:
Highlight of our visitor list was a young teen named Shea. He has been
birding since he was 3. He interacted with many of our regulars and really
knew his stuff. Thanks to his Mom, Eve, for bringing him up to the watch..
Several regulars and yearly visitors were helping today: Gene, Dillard and
friend, Allen and Robin, Baron and Tina, Garland, Elizabeth, Bob, Barry,
John P, Mike C, Carl, Bill and Katie, John, Tim and Sue, the Barretts,
Phillip, Darryl, Mitch, and Joyce. Several other visitors stopped by or
helped. Thanks to all.
Weather:
Beautiful day. Started chilly at 43F and rose to 66F. Had an initial fog in
the Western valley with wisps being blown across the knob. This did not
block our overall visibility which was a 5 throughout. The fog had burned
off by 11a. Very few clouds, though we had a high haze covering 30-50% of
the sky in the late afternoon. Winds were 4-5 and from the W.
Raptor Observations:
BW numbers were down, but we had 8 species of raptors. Birds were seen on
both sides of the knob. We had an IBE at 12:45p.
Non-raptor Observations:
4 fighter jets and 2 other military aircraft were seen.
An Olive-sided flycatcher stayed several hours in the top of a tree in
front of the overlook.
Predictions:
Little warmer. Hopefully the BW's will rebound some.
