Observers: David Kirk
Visitors:
Don Aldridge stopped by and chatted for a while but had to retreat to work
on his broken four wheeler. Arlene (aka the lady that lives in the house
with the white fence surrounding it) stopped by with her mother for a few
minutes and chatted with me.
Weather:
Beautiful sunny day with temps starting at 35 and going as high as 45.
Virtually no wind all day, no clouds but visibility was about as good as it
gets with all distant ridges easily seen.
Raptor Observations:
For second Friday in a row only one bird counted, a northern harrier at
12:50 which, oddly, was the same time the previous Friday that we spotted
the golden eagle coming through.
Non-raptor Observations:
A group of 8 ravens entertained us for a while and we didn't see any turkey
vultures until fairly late in the day. Maybe they had heard some rumors
about disappearing turkeys the previous day and decided to lay low.
Parkway traffic was surprisingly heavy, possibly black Friday shoppers
short cutting from one great bargain to another as only a handful came
through the overlook parking lot and even fewer stopped. A few day hikers
who had parked at the lower end of the parking lot and returned to their
car about midday.
Predictions:
Warmer, windier, cloudier, birdier.
