The last week brought expected newcomers: sapsucker (drumming-first time
I've heard this in the fall); both kinglets; winter wren; hermit thrush;
white-throated sparrows.
It also brought some late lingering birds: a pewee last seen on 10/17 (on
day short of my latest), and a wood thrush (10/17, weeks after my latest).
The Hike/Bike Trail at Huntley Meadows was pretty quiet this morning: most
notable birds were a palm warbler, a blackpoll, and a dozen greater
yellowlegs.
