Hello VA birders,
I spent about 5 hours at Hog Island today. Most of my time was at the far
end walking the trail by the fields and pools. Highlights included 15
species of shorebird;
6 Semipalmated Plover, 4 Killdeer,
5 American Avocet

the 5 birds.
3 Spotted Sandpiper, 8 Solitary Sandpiper, 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 6 Lesser
Yellowlegs,
1 Upland Sandpiper (took flight as I was angling for a better view of the
Avocets. Good flight views, but then gained height and eventually came back
down in tall grass and not seen again).
51 Semipalmated Sandpiper, 6 Western Sandpiper, 13 Least Sandpiper, 1
White-rumped Sandpiper, 4 Pectoral Sandpiper, 1 Stilt Sandpiper, 2
Short-billed Dowitcher.
Also continuing Ring-necked Duck, 2 Black Tern, Glossy Ibis, and a Cicada
