Yesterday afternoon (9/14), at Hog Island, Nick Flanders, David Bryan, and I
saw a Buff-breasted Sandpiper at the south pool. Most of the other pools appear
to be dry. There were several flocks of shorebirds at the south pool. I counted
17 Pectoral Sandpipers at one point and 2 Stilt Sandpipers were seen. We didn't
find the Red-necked Phalarope, but it was a nice afternoon of birdwatching.
After David left, Nick and I saw a Common Nighthawk flying near the observation
tower and heard a Sora nearby. Strangely, I didn't see any Bald Eagles -- they
are usually present in good numbers.
Have a good day!
