I've worked in an office park on Trinity Parkway in Centreville for 4
years (it's in a triangle formed by the intersection of Routes 28, 29,
and 66) and I'm always amazed at the variety of wildlife that finds its
way there. There's a small "lake" in the middle of the office park
surrounded by 2 office buildings, a couple of restaurants, and a tiny
patch of woods. I've been told that the lake was the pond for the farm
that was there before the office park was built, so there's fish in it.
There's frequently a great blue heron there, and in the past I've seen a
belted kingfisher, killdeer, multiple green herons, and a pied-billed
grebe. There's been a grebe swimming around in the lake for the last 3
days and I finally had the opportunity today to get my binoculars from
the car at lunchtime to get a better look. It's a HORNED GREBE--a first
for me. I hope it hangs out for a while.
