Before walking the Noland Trail, I spent some time scanning the James
River. Around 8:30 AM, three flocks of Horned Grebes landed in the area where
Lake Maury empties into the James. There were over 100 total. As Nick
Flanders reported earlier, several ventured very close to shore...within 10-15
ft. Some fantastic looks at Horned Grebes.
