Eight people showed up for this morning's Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy walk,
led by Joe Coleman & assisted by Linda Sieh, at Horsepen Preserve in eastern
Loudoun Co. The highlight of the 35-species walk was a BARRED OWL near the
Potomac River. Horsepen Preserve is privately owned by the Countryside HOA who
gave us permission to bird the property as long as a local resident accompanied
us. Its several hundred acres are immediately west of Algonkian Regional Park
and is a beautiful location and because of its extensive mix of wet areas,
river, and edge habitat provides excellent birding for those familiar with it.
