At 8AM this morning the Hunting Creek mudflats were very active with 38
Killdeer, 4 Dunlin, 2 Least Sandpipers and one greater Yellowlegs feeding.
Twenty five Great Egrets and 27 GBHs were on the flats with birds scattering
when two adult Bald Eagles patrolled the area. Waterfowl are still abundant
but species diversity was down. However, in the small cove south of the Haul
Road at Dyke Marsh Gadwall, American Wigeon, Green-winged Teal, Northern
shovelers, Ruddies, Black Duck and Mallards browsed on the hydrilla. Pied
billed Grebes, coot and DC Cormorants also were in the cove along with a
Forster's Tern.
