The sparrow was in the Woodcock Meadow, the thrasher in a brush pile to the
east of the platform at the end of the Hike/Bike Trail. (For the record,
the thrasher responded to pishing, which do, albeit infrequently.) The
swans (15 in two flocks) were flyovers on Saturday.
Waterfowl on Saturday (approximate numbers):
250 gw teal
100 mallard
3 black
4 shoveler
1 pintail (male)
100 Canada goose
Regarding thrashers, a review of my records shows I’ve only seen thrashers
in winter twice before, both on the Ft. Belvoir CBC. Every other year, the
sightings stop around mid-October.
