VA BIRDers,
I started near 6 am at the Telegraph Rd entrance to Huntley Meadows, met up
with Ted Vawter about an hour later and we continued for nearly the balance
of the morning; I ended at 10 am. Then, near sunset, I went to the
boardwalk portion of HM and added a few species. I ended the day at 77
species and the highlight was a singing Lincoln's Sparrow, tee-ed up on a
low bare stalk in the main woodcock meadow far right side. Other highlights
were Virginia Rail, Least Sandpiper, Veery, Swainson's Thrush, Nashville
Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler, Wilson's Warbler and Canada Warbler. The Swamp
Sparrow tally was 4 (evenly divided front and backside) and White-throated
Sparrows were 10 (all backside). The list is below for the HM people and
others who are interested.
