You may recall that we asked for help in identifying a hawk reported in the
Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk this week. We posted photographs at
http://towensoutdoorsmore.shutterfly.com/ for analysis and ID. Several of you ;
went through what seemed like exhaustive research, mensuration of the images in
the photographs, and detailed analysis of avian records in response to this
request. For this, Huntley Meadows staff and Friends of Huntley Meadows thank
you. The nearly unanimous conclusion is that this bird was a Coopers Hawk, and
not a Northern Goshawk. We would like to especially thank Stephan who
apparently went to great lengths to measure the image of the bird and compare
it to the Flicker also pictured in some of the photographs.
