An unusually large gathering of over 35 birders joined the Huntley Meadows
Monday morning Birdwalk today and totaled 45 species. It was a warm, sunny
day, with signs of fall prominent everywhere. Highlights of today's walk
included a very large group of Chimney Swifts swooping around from the water
surface to altitudes of hundreds of feet; 3 very handsome Brown Thrashers
openly showing off at the water's edge; a large number of Wood Ducks flying and
swimming around the Central Wetland. The two or three males were in full
plumage. An impressive sight.
