Dear VA birders,
Sorry for the late post. Yesterday, Dave Larsen, Larry Blair and I went to
Huntley Meadows. It was a beautiful day and the birds were singing. We found
a very large flock of Rusty Blackbirds in the parking lot. The resident beaver
was sitting out in the sun and eating breakfast. Once we got to the pond, we
found a variety of ducks including: Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler and
Gadwall. Pairs of Wood Ducks were flying over the pond and through the woods,
together. The Teal were brilliant in the sunshine and they were displaying to
one another. On the way home, we stopped by the Prince William County landfill
to check out the gulls. We found lots of the usual suspects: Ring-billed and
Herring gulls, Black and Turkey Vultures, American and Fish Crows, European
Starlings and several Bald Eagles. We did also find a Great Black-backed Gull
and a Lesser Black-backed Gull. The Bald Eagles were chasing one another and
performing leg dangling displays. It was a great day.
Good birding!
