I went to Huntley for the second day in a row, this time exploring the
informal trails along Barnyard Run in the SE part of the park. I observed a
flock of 5 turkeys, and the first Red-headed Woodpecker I've seen at Huntley
in a couple of years. Other notables were a Purple Finch and several small
groups of Rusty Blackbirds.
Birds were feeding heavily on Sweetgum seeds (chickadees, goldfinches,
juncos, waxwings) throughout. At times seeds were hitting the leaf litter
in such quantities it sounded like rain.
