The W&OD Trail was flush with beautiful blue Indigo Buntings
yesterday for anyone who wants an eye- and ear-full. I saw and heard easily
more than a dozen over
a one mile leg of the trail starting at Hunter Mill Road and heading east toward
Vienna. By Vienna’s Maple Avenue, I saw
two Northern Mockingbirds feeding their bugs to their nestlings and a Gray
Catbird feeding mulberries to its mouth-stained baby on the ground. I also saw
roughly 2 dozen Northern Cardinals
and an Eastern Towhee. My photos are
