Again I apologize for the late post.
On Friday and Saturday 11/28 and 29 I was birding
while confirming permission of private landowners
to bird on their properties along the Pamunkey
River on the Jan 4 Walkerton Christmas Bird
Count. The highlights were the following, mostly
between Elsing Green and The Pamunkey
Reservation:
7 Pied-billed Grebe
115 coots weren't present Friday, were on
Saturday
90 killdeer
2 snipe
7 forster's terns
2400 Canada Goose
41 tundra swan
60 gadwall
2 american goldeneye
30 ruddy duck
62 ring-necked duck
4 hooded merganser
45 black duck
145 mallard
90 pintail
5 shoveler
5 green-winged teal
large numbers of vultures (85 black, 30 turkey)
6 bald eagles
2 purple finch (my first for King William)
By the way, I am still eager to find more birders
to help us out on the Walkerton CBC on January 4.
It is a fascinating area that is mostly private
property, but on this day many big landowners
have granted permission for us to bird their
properties. Please let me know as soon as
possible if you are interested.
