Howdy all,
Well the past two days have been rather good considering there has been not
north winds. We managed to catch 54 birds on the 14th and 32 on the 15th before
the rains set in. It is still amazing how many species are around right now. I
usually think of late Sept and early Oct as the most diverse times. Not quite
the case this year. We had 17 species out of 54 birds on the 14th. Warblers
seem to be in good numbers this year.
The highlight of the past two days came this morning before the rain set in. On
the 10:15 net run the first net we checked had a Yellow-billed Cuckoo and a
YELLOW-THROATED VIREO! In the last since the 11 Sept. we have caught five
species of Vireos!
This was the first YTVI since 1998 and only the 9th since 1963! It was nice to
have John Porter show up just in time to see the vireo and a Chestnut-sided
Warbler and share in the excitement.

We all hope that the rains kind of stay away this week and weekend. It would be
nice to stay banding while the banding is good.
Who knows what birds lie in our future? It's been a great year so far!
