Howdy all,
Well today turned out to be an ok day on the shore. The weather pattern seems a
little off the past few days, so it was a nice surprise to see as many birds as
we did today. It was however, not as big as this time of year should be
producing. We ended up banding 73 birds today. Very unlike the 236 and 162
banded last year on the 9/29 and 9/30 respectively. However, given the weather
pattern, 73 was a nice total for today. The best bird of the day was probably
the Blue-headed Vireo but we had nice numbers of Indigo Buntings as well. Hope
there are a few birds around tomorrow.
Totals 9/30:
A. Redstart 4
Black-thr. Blue 8
Blackpoll 1
C. Yellowthroat 13
Yellow 1
Pine 1
Western Palm 2
N. Waterthrush 1
Y-b Chat 1
House Wren 3
White-eyed Vireo 1
Blue-headed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 2
Indigo Bunting 10
Swainson's Thrush 1
Carolina Wren 2
Gray Catbird 12
N. Cardinal 5
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1
Brown Thrasher 1
Blue Jay 2
N. Bobwhite [2] released unbanded
It was a beautiful day at the station. Thousands of Blue Jays went through
today. Just a nice day to be out!
Hope to see you all at the banding station!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
