Kiptopeke Challenge Rules & InformationWe participated in the Kiptopeke
Challenge yesterday, September 13, 2008. We are a special venue team and we
bird only the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge. We were on the refuge
from 0630-1400 and again from 1800-1930 and we covered the main area of the
refuge, Wise Point and a bit of the Bull Tract that belongs to the refuge.
The day was hot and humid with a fair west-southwest wind most of the day.
Even with these conditions, we had our best totals for the 5 times we have
done the challenge. We totaled 77 species with some good warblers and a
fair hawk movement during the day.
