Howdy all,
The Kiptopeke songbird banding station is now up and running for the fall.
Well, sort of. Now if someone would just tell the birds!
The station started banding on the 15 August, with plans to run seven days a
week until about the 21 November (weather permitting). We start each day 15 to
30 minutes before sunrise and run eight hours after that. If bird numbers are
very low, we sometimes stop after six hours of work. The banding station is
located within the Kiptopeke State Park. If any of you are ever on the eastern
shore, be sure to stop by and say hi and check out the banding station!
As for the birds, they have been few. At least for now. Migrants are starting
to show up and the locals are making there appearance, but they are a little
shy right now. Once the word gets out that we give them silver jewelry, they
will be flocking to the station! I just hope it is soon. We have had three
single digit days out of the six days we have been open.

On a better note, at least it has stopped raining!!!
