Weather:
Light winds were from the west southwest for most of the day, switching
over to more northwesterly in the late afternoon. Skies were partly cloudy
with temperatures in the seventies to low eighties.
Raptor Observations:
Mostly kestrels and Merlins were moving today. The Swallow-tailed Kite was
seen once this morning at 9:35 am EST, hunting far off to the south. It was
not seen again after this time.
Non-raptor Observations:
At least seven Ruby-throated Hummingbirds were busily zipping around the
feeders today, and they were most active in the morning. There was a good
amount of passerine activity in the trees behind the platform this morning,
including Traill's Flycatchers, Baltimore Orioles, Summer Tanagers, Pine
Warblers, and American Redstarts. Seven Common Nighthawks and fourteen
Monarchs were seen.
