Weather:
Light to moderate winds were variable with an easterly component. Skies
were overcast with a little blue peeking through during parts of the
afternoon. There was a brief shower in the early afternoon. Temperatures
were in the high fifties to high sixties.
Raptor Observations:
The morning was very slow, but things picked up quite nicely during an
afternoon burst of accipiters. We also saw a good number of harriers today.
Many birds were seen flying out in the distance to the west, over the bay.
Non-raptor Observations:
There was a nice flight of 141 Great Blue Herons today. We are starting to
see American Goldfinches, with a total of 43 counted today (including a
little group of four at the thistle feeder). A side note: our local
mockingbird has been heard mimicking at least 28 bird species, plus sirens
and crickets, to date. Other highlights of the day included:
