Total observation time: 8.5 hours
Official Counter: Eli Gross
Observers: Ned Brinkley
Weather:
Overcast layer in the early morning broke apart during the day leaving a
sky that was great for hawkwatching. Temps in the high 50's and wind out of
the E for much of the day.
Raptor Observations:
Real nice day of buteo movement. Seasonal daily high for both Red-shoulders
and Red-tails. Also had a first year Golden Eagle at 1315. A couple late
juvenile Peregrines were also nice.
Non-raptor Observations:
Fantastic morning of movement for all non-raptor species. Busy for
waterbird species on the bay as well as songbird species. The finch
movement continued with 1624 American Goldfinches and 314 Purple Finches.
Additionally Cave Swallows continue in large numbers, with 57 today, which
is likely an undercount as Cave Swallows were in view the entire day. Other
notables: Parasitic Jaeger (1), Black Scoter (163), Surf Scoter (64),
Common Loon (56), Bonaparte's Gull (27), American Robin (21292), Red-winged
Blackbird (6863), Rusty Blackbird (19).
