Observation end time: 17:00:00
Total observation time: 9 hours
Official Counter: Anna Stunkel, Brian Taber
Observers: Brian Taber, Julia Magill, Paul Shanahan
Weather:
Winds were very strong in the morning (~25-30 mph with larger gusts), and
relatively strong throughout the day. Skies were partly cloudy, with
temperatures in the fifties.
Raptor Observations:
Birds were zooming by in the strong winds. The flight was spread out, with
birds flying at various heights. We had a nice flight of harriers,
sharpies, kestrels, and Merlins. An immature Golden Eagle was seen on the
East side. For the second time this season, we watched a Bald Eagle bully
an Osprey into dropping his fish catch. The eagle then caught the fish in
mid-air.
Non-raptor Observations:
Observations included:
~25 American Goldfinches
22 Chimney Swifts
17 Common Loons
12 Killdeer
9 Great Egrets (flying together)
9 Surf Scoters
3 Purple Finches
2 Pine Siskins
1 Black-and-white Warbler
45 Monarchs
