Observation start time: 06:30:00
Observation end time: 15:30:00
Total observation time: 9 hours
Official Counter: Anna Stunkel
Observers: Brian Taber, Julia Magill, Paul Shanahan
Weather:
Light winds were variable, often from the southwest. Skies were partly
cloudy, with temperatures in the low forties to high fifties.
Raptor Observations:
There was a very good red-tail flight today, and some accipiters were on
the move. Many birds were high-flying.
Non-raptor Observations:
A group of 16 American White Pelicans was seen heading northwards this
afternoon, on the east side of the platform. Just a few minutes later, we
spotted 18 white pelicans heading northwards on the east side of the
platform. Given the direction of movement and timing between the sightings,
these were almost certainly two separate groups of birds! Many American
Robins were migrating this morning, with a total of 2,230 birds counted.
Fifteen Chimney Swifts were seen, including a group of four birds which put
on a good show performing acrobatics around the platform this afternoon.
Other observations included:
93 Blue Jays
31 American Goldfinches
30 Surf Scoters
16 Killdeer
14 Pine Siskins
12 Purple Finches
5 Eastern Towhees
3 Common Loons
3 Gadwall
