Weather:
Winds were moderate and variable, starting out generally from the northwest
and becoming more northerly, westerly, and then easterly overall. Skies
were clear for most of the day, becoming partly and then mostly cloudy in
the late afternoon and evening. Temperatures were in the high fifties to
low seventies.
Raptor Observations:
It was relatively slow, with most visible activity occurring in the earlier
morning and evening.
Non-raptor Observations:
A Northern Mockingbird was busily singing away this morning. The songs and
calls included in his repertoire (from what I can remember off the top of
my head) included: Summer Tanager, Carolina Wren, American Kestrel,
Eastern Bluebird, Great Crested Flycatcher, probable Northern Bobwhite,
Carolina Chickadee, American Robin, Blue Jay, Purple Martin, Tree Swallow,
Killdeer, Northern Flicker, and cricket sp. Two Red-headed Woodpeckers
passed. It was another big day for Monarch migration, with 252 butterflies
counted.
