Howdy all,
Today was not quite the best day to be banding. The winds were nice enough to
not show up until about 830 this am, but so did light rain showers. Then the
wind quit, and then picked back up again. A very weird morning here on the
shore. Nonetheless, we managed to do a little banding, using what nets were not
in the wind. We ended up closing the station a little before 1 pm due to the
increasing winds and the drop off of bird activity. We banded a total of 42
birds this morning which was pretty good for all the weather was throwing at
use.
Nothing too crazy but we did band our first YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKER of the
season and saw a nice push of NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES as well.
Here's the numbers:
Prairie Warbler 2
Black-throated Blue Warbler 1
Black-and-white Warbler 6
American Redstart 3
Magnolia Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 5
Northern Waterthrush 6
Ovenbird 2
Traill's Flycatcher 2
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 3
Veery 4
Carolina Wren 1
Cedar Waxwing 1
Northern Cardinal 3
Yellow-shafted Flicker 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird ( 1 ) unbanded
TOTAL ----------------------------- 42
Tomorrow looks to be way windy again. Might be a super slow day. I am already
just hoping for ten birds. Hopefully I am wrong!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
