Howdy all,
Wow, it must be August still. We have had some pretty slow days at the
banding station recently and today was no different. We managed to band a
whopping
6 birds today. Of which, maybe one, a WORM-EATING WARBLER was a current
migrant (a nice fat one). Pretty slow when you chase butterflies around in
between net runs.
As a note to those who might visit this weekend. Be prepared for little bird
activity at the banding station. There are birds there, just not many. Also
come early, like before 9am for the best chance to see a bird. Since activity
is way low, we have been closing the station for the day around noon.
As for the TEREK SANDPIPER pics that John Fox (thanks! glad to be back!)
mention in his post, yes, there are three pictures of the bird on the blog I
am
trying to run ( _www.cvwo.org_ (http://www.cvwo.org) then click on CVWO BLOG
on the left hand column). I would like to thank Mike Lowry, the photographer
of the Tereks, for allowing me to post them on there. I am still highly
jealous. What an awesome bird! You know, if you are into those sadistic
shorebirds!
Anyway, here's the banding totals for 8/22:
Carolina Chickadee 2
Worm-eating Warbler 1
Carolina Wren 1
Northern Cardinal 1
American Robin 1
TOTAL---------------------- 6
Would love for birds to be around this weekend, but..yea. Looks to be a bit
slow. Hopefully, I am wrong. Again.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend and go out and find that Tereks!!!
Cheers,
