Howdy all,
As expected, today was a bit slower than yesterday but we still managed to
do rather well. We started off the morning by catching an EASTERN SCREECH-OWL.
We don't catch many here, maybe one every other year on average. This bird
had a lot of head molt going on so not quite the cutest owl I have ever seen.
But still a nice bird to catch. It was a hatch year red phase.
We also caught a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER today, a bird we average about one
a season. Hopefully this one was not the last, but...
Also caught our third YELLOW WARBLER of the season today as well.
Banded a good number of BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS today so I guess they are
really moving through right now.
Totals for 9/2:
American Redstart 13
Black-and-white Warbler 9
Black-throated Blue Warbler 1
Northern Parula 1
Common Yellowthroat 2
Yellow Warbler 1
Prairie Warbler 1
Northern Waterthrush 2
Traill's Flycatcher 1 (willow or alder)
Great Crested Flycatcher 1 first of the season
Veery 2
Northern Mockingbird 2
Eastern Screech-Owl 1 first of the season
TOTAL------------------------------- 37
Looks like it might be slowing up more and more as the week goes on. I am
ready for another frontal system!
Cheers,
