Howdy all,
The wave of birds continued again today at Kiptopeke State Park. Here at the
banding station, we finished the day banding 78 birds of 22 species. Some of
the better birds included our second PHILADELPHIA VIREO in as many days, a
seldom caught BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, and a beautiful pair (male and
female) HOODED WARBLERS. We also caught our first GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH of the
season as well.
Overall, I was quite impressed with the amount of birds and the diversity
that was around today. Usually after a cold front, bird numbers here tapper
off
fairly rapidly. But this was our third good day in a row. Obviously no
complaints here!
I sure hope it continues, mainly because the birding and wildlife festival
is this weekend!
Hope everyone is planning on attending!
Here are the totals for 9/18:
American Redstart 7
Common Yellowthroat 10
Black-and-white Warbler 4
Black-throated Green Warbler 1
Magnolia Warbler 1
Hooded Warbler 2 first of the season, both
male and female
Ovenbird 7
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
Eastern Wood-Pewee 2
Least Flycatcher 1
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 1
Philadelphia Vireo 1
House Wren 7
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 8
Indigo Bunting 3
Swainson's Thrush 1
Veery 3
Wood Thrush 1
Gray-cheeked Thrush 1 first of the season, and no,
not a Bicknell's
Gray Catbird 13
Brown Thrasher 2
TOTAL---------------------------------- 78
Rumored that it is going to be windy tomorrow. If that is the case, it could
make for a rough day for the festival. It would be great if the winds held
off!
Hope to see you all on the shore this weekend!
Cheers,
