Hi All,

The Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory's Kiptopeke Banding Station, with Calvin Brennan as the head bander, is off to its best start in over 20 years. The station opened on 8/18, and over 700 birds have been banded already. Visitors are always welcome at the station, and we encourage you to head over to the Eastern Shore for an up-close, outstanding look at at the fall migration. Check out the Kiptopeke Blog button on CVWO's homepage at http://www.cvwo.org/ for species numbers, great photos, and migration commentary.

Looking for a fun and worthwhile birding competition? Consider forming or joining a team for the annual Kiptopeke Challenge to be held on Saturday September 25th. The Challenge is the Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory's primary fund raiser, and we depend on it to help us cover our banding staff salaries. Information for prospective participants or for folks willing to help support a team with a per-species pledge can be found at http://www.cvwo.org/2010-KCBrochure.pdf

Best,
Bob Reilly

Station Master and Vice President, Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory
