I wasn't home this AM when Mark Johnson called me about the LONG-TAILED DUCKS
at Mill Cr Lake in Amherst county. Fortunately, I checked my email before
leaving work and after seeing the posting by Mark and Rexanne Bruno, I decided
to drop by the lake on my way home. I got there around 6:30 and flock of
Long-tailed Ducks was still there. I had great views and enjoyed wathcing them
flying around the lake and hearing them yodeling. This is the first time I've
seen this species in the greater Lynchburg area in nearly 40 years of birding
in the area!!
Great find Mark! Thanks for getting the word out.
Other birds on the lake included the aforementioned 7 Ruddy Ducks, 2 Common
Loon in breeding plumage, and 5 Blue-winged Teal (3 male, 2 female) at the
bridge on Rt 778.
Saludos,
Mike
