Sorry this is so late. I was going to announce that the last Pine Siskin at
my feeders was seen on May 3 but another showed up for just one day on
May10. There have been none since then. I miss them. They were always
around my deck or up in the trees singing like canaries. The thistle feed
is lasting MUCH longer however.
Today when I went out on the deck I heard the distinctive honking of a
Red-breasted Nuthatch. I wondered at this but went back inside knowing that
if it really was a RB Nut it would come to the suet. Sure enough, about 5
minutes later I heard him loudly calling on the deck. I ran to see, and lo,
and behold, there was a Blue Jay doing a perfect imitation. I knew Blue
Jays could imitate but that's the first time I've experienced it. Now I
wonder where he learned it. We had RBNs this winter but not that often.
