Va Birders
I took an early short walk with dog in tow at Lake Fairfax between 7:30 and
9:00.
We started at the parking lot adjacent to the dam outflow area and headed up on
the dam to see if
any waterfowl had arrived . The lake was calm and completely void of any
waterfowl even mallards.
We did however flush a solo Vesper Sparrow from the open area below the dam. It
only flew a short
distance then settled down again before a group of joggers sent it off far in
the direction of the park
entrance. I think this bird has eluded my year Fairfax list to date so that was
a nice reward.
Here are a few other birds observed worth mentioning.
Clear and calm no wind, 29 degrees at start.
Kestrel
Yellow Bellied Sapsucker 2
Hermit Thrush -3
Red Breasted Nuthatch - 2
Brown Creeper - 1
White Throated Sparrow - dozens.. many singing rather clearly
Chipping Sparrow
Dark Eyed Junco
