When I briefly woke up at around 3:00 am, I took a peek at the radar
to check on the birding potential ... the whole East Coast was lit up
blue and green and it was a true indicator of the activity.
I figured I would head out at sunrise and perhaps go to Riverbend, but
never got farther than Lake Fairfax. I located 9 warbler species in
just two locations, the tent camping area and cricket field parking lot.
Black and White, Tennessee, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart
(male), Cape May (new in park for me), Magnolia, Black-throated Blue ( F ),
Pine Warblers still singing occasionally, Black-throated Green.
Also had a Least Flycatcher perching low, well below the canopy and
below a few other Empids. Bold eye ring, rounded head and noticebly
smaller.
Also had Red-eyed vireo, two Brown Thrashers, Ruby-throated hummingbird,
Phoebe, and Wood Peewee....No Thrushes
