Hello from a UK birder, who's recently joined the Virginia Birding list.
I'll be in Virginia at a conference in McLean from 28 May to 1 June, but
plan a week's birding before that. I'd really appreciate any advice
from you guys, or even offers of "I'd love to show you around the best
places on such-and-such a day". I'll be arriving at Dulles at 2.40 pm
on Wed 21st May and plan to hire a car and drive down to Chincoteague
for two or three days. Places to stay that I've seen online are a good
$70 per night - are their cheaper motels around? Suggestions?
After that I'd like to explore any areas which offer to help with my
"hitlist" (below). If birders come to my area of east England, I would
know almost exactly where to find most of the typical May birds they may
be looking for, and I wonder if your area has similar predictable finds
- eg American Woodcock on its evening flight, or known places for
particular warblers. I'm happy to drive a good distance, even out of
state if there is a significantly different habitat and range of birds
not too far across a state boundary.
Any replies to bartow@xxxxxxxxxxxx please. * on the list means it is a
priority bird! I realise I may be being a bit optimistic with many on
this list - especially those which may have moved north by late May.
But we can dream, can't we?!
Best wishes,
Bartow Wylie (Mr)
