VA BIRDers,
I started out in the picnic area near the last parking lot at 730am and the
action was good near the first shelter you see. Highlight was Black-billed
Cuckoo, Philadelphia Vireo and several Cape Mays. A lady photographer came
out and joined me for about an hour - we ran into Marc and Scott near the
swing sets. Moving on, I went to the backside of the Visitor Center and got
few rewards, then headed to the Bushy Point Kayak Launch area, soon joined
by Marc and Scott, and there was a small bit of activity - Marc indicated a
Veery was near the parking lot. We walked about, then headed to the old
Beaver Ponds (Marc noted a Black-billed Cuckoo going to ground for a green
caterpillar of some such) and this new location added more Common
Yellowthroats and a green-back empid low in the growth suggestive of a
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher; this ended the visit to the park (I think it was
about 11?). Totals that I could recall are below.
