VA BIRDers,
Before my 8AM car repair appointment, I dropped by Leesylvania SP for a bit
less than an hour and, despite the cloudy, overcast, somewhat foggy conditions,
found a few groups of migrants. Highlight was an adult Yellow-bellied
Flycatcher along the edge of the paved road near the Lee ruins, in this year's
new growth of trees and shrubs and grasses. A yellow-throated, big-headed
cutie with big eye-rings and orange lower mandible. The bird was foraging
rather low, about 2 feet above the ground.
Kudos to the Leesylvania SP management in letting this habitat grow up. It can
be easily knocked down late this year or early next year and does not detract
from the park's appearance.
