My group had a nice morning today at Leesylvania as I led a warbler workshop
organized by the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia and co-sponsored by the
Northern Virginia Bird Club. Our main focus was warblers and we found eleven
species: Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Yellow-rumped, Blackpoll, Black and White,
Blue-winged, Ovenbird, Black-throated Green, Prothonotary, Northern Parula, and
Yellow-throated. Several of these were heard only birds, but we had our share
of nice views too. Other notable birds included both Orioles, Caspian Terns,
GC Flycatchers, an Eastern Wood-Peewee, Spotted Sandpipers, a well seen
Yellow-throated Vireo, a heard Blue-headed Vireo, and a couple of Gadwall. We
had 57 species total.
