Bruce Hill, who does not subscribe to VA-Bird, called to let me know that he
sighted a Loggerhead Shrike earlier today as he was wrapping up a walk at the
Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve. It flew into the top of a tree near the Visitor
Center where it interacted with a Northern Mockingbird. Bruce last saw it
flying away in the direction of the Dulles Greenway Wetlands Mitigation Project.
He also saw several Fox Sparrows, some of which were singing, at Banshee and
commented how nice it was to hear some of them singing.
Information and directions for Banshee Reeks, which is only open on weekends
from 8 am to 4 pm, can be found at http://www.bansheereeks.org.
