VA BIRDers,
Marc Ribaudo and I noted the Loggerhead Shrike at the previously reported
Stone Ridge Rd location in Clarke Co today at about 11 am. It was on a wire
east of the barn and about 150 yds north of the road.
Only a few other highlights today on the piedmont and Ridge/Valley areas we
visited. Am. Wigeon at the Sky Meadows fishing pond, Green-winged Teal on
Belvoir pond off Rt 17, Pied-billed Grebe on the Harrison Rd pond, a couple
of the typical Red-headed WP at Sky Meadows, Tree Swallow over Belvoir Rd
pond, American Pipits in the corn field off Harrison Rd (west portion), and
Savannah Sparrows and Field Sparrows mixed in with migratory Song Sparrow
groups (50+ of the latter) at Sky Meadows fields (short grass field off the
Bridle Trail).
