Nine members of the Northern Virginia Bird Club enjoyed a brisk morning at
Long Branch in Arlington County today. A few phoebes, a few towhees, and
the brightening color of the goldfinches were our best signs of spring, as
well as male downy woodpeckers annoying each other and male cardinals
chasing each other in likely territorial face-offs.
