I went over to the Luther Jackson Intermediate school ( Gallows Rd. and
RT.50) in Fairfax at about 7:10 tonight to check on the chimney swifts. By
the time they started going in about 7:55, I estimate there were 2,000 for
sure, probably 2,500, and perhaps even 3,000 birds . It was a great show. By
about 8:15 they were mostly in the chimney. I also had two nice (and low)
nighthawk flybys.
After the swifts, I preceded over to Tysons to check on the nighthawks. I
expected a good night. The lights were ON at 8:20, so I suppose they come on
now at 8:00 instead of 9. However there were NO night hawks at all; NONE
!!
Who know why. I'll try again tomorrow evening.
