We went through Loudoun county Sunday 8/24 trying to find shorebirds. The
sod farms on Loudoun county parkway are not dug up yet and are very dry. We
found 1 Killdeer there. 4 Killdeer were found at the Dulles Wetlands.
The real highlights were the hawks.
At the sod farms we had:
Northern Harrier 1
Red tailed Hawk 5
American Kestrel 2
And at Beaverdam, was 1 Broad winged Hawk.
The real treat of the day was the butterflies, mostly at Beaverdam. We
found all of these:
Monarch
Cabbage White
Red spotted Purple
Hackberry Emporer
Fiery Skipper
Summer Azure
Question Mark
Pearl Crescent
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Eastern tailed Blue
Silver spotted Skipper
Spicebush Swallowtail
Common Wood Nymph
Delaware Skipper
Great Spangled Fritterlary
Northern Pearly Eye
Common Buckeye
Eastern Comma
Orange Sulphur
Clouded Sulphur
American Lady
Black Swallowtail
and one unidentified as of yet Duskywing
