Finally got back on the list-serve!
I really this is a Virginia oriented list-serve, but I will still send a
few notes outside the area.
Especially as I am getting a notice that MDOSPREY's listserve can not take
any more members.
What is the story on that anyway?
For the heck of it, I took a look at Point-of-rocks, Maryland: a hookup
with the C&O canal trail
that is about 12 miles south of Harper's Ferry. Not terribly productive,
but I will list a few sightings
anyway. Note: Trains passing by can be quite loud in the area.
Indigo Buntings were singing about every 200 yards or so as I hiked north
towards Harper's
Ferry. I have noted that they also favor a similar topography at the W&OD
bike trail in Vienna, Virginia.
Heard 2 separate songs of Prothonotary Warbler plus a Warbling Vireo along
the way. Also thought I heard one three-eight call of a Yellow-throated
Warbler.
A few Pewee called along the way, but Acadian flycatchers dominated the
wooded area along
both sides of the Trail
Ate lunch at a unused boat launch ramp along the way. A rather ratty
looking 1st year immature Bald
Eagle briefly took a wide circle over the Potomac. After I turned around
and started back south, I heard
at least one bald eagle call along the ridge near the railroad tracks.
Noise just doesn't seem to
bother these raptors at all!
Keep cool! Hopefully this heat wave will end soon.
