I stopped by the New York Monuments at the Manassas Battlield this morning
at 7:00 am. It was a fairly nice morning weatherwise. The birds were already
active although the sun had just been up a short while. Standing in one spot
just off the parking I observed:
Magnolia Warbler(2), Kentucky Warbler, Blue-wing Warbler(2), Common
Yellowthroat(2), American Redstart, Black and White Warbler(3), Blackburnian
Warbler,
Black-throated Green Warbler, Least Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher,
Eastern Wood Pewee(3), an Olive Sided Flycatcher moved past 2 times with great
views but I think it was the same bird, Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager,
Cedar
Waxwing(6), B/g Gnatcatcher(20+), female Indigo Bunting, the usual suspects.
The same(most likely) Yellow-Billed Cuckoo was playing this week same as last
week. I got very close looks and it had a butterfly or moth back wing in its
beak and it was flinging and/or blowing it up in the air about a foot and
catching it in its beak on the way down and then repeating this action. It did
it
probably a dozen times. At least now I can say I've seen this behavior before
as
it was doing the same thing last week end. Dave White Zion Crossroads
