David Nichols and I were responsible for Cub Run Stream Valley Park in western
Fairfax County. The stream was in flood stage, going way over its banks, and
inundated most of the good sparrow habitat. Swamp and Fox Sparrows were
absent. We were able to find 3 Field Sparrows and considered ourselves lucky.
We had impressive numbers of Yellow-rumped Warblers and Blue Jays (nearly 60 of
each species).
Other than that, our primary job was staying dry. I'm happy to report that my
boots, rain pants, and waterproof jacket passed with flying colors.
