Hello birders,
Today I visited the eBird hot spot named "Manassas National Battlefield
Park--Sparrow Alley" (Prince William). This is one of the very few hot spots
that appears to have a nickname contributed by birders. Can anyone tell me the
origin of the name? Does it come from an individual, or a bird club, etc.?
Here's the Sparrow Alley check list for today. The best bird was an adult male
Northern Harrier.

Sparrow diversity was really poor I thought, just 4 very common species, even
though I was mainly looking for sparrows. Is there a better time of year to
find them there?
Then, at the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority pond (Fairfax), I ran into Scott
Priebe. Thanks to Kurt and Marc for reporting, we did see an M-F pair of Wood
Ducks. Nothing to add to their report from yesterday. One of the two adult
Eagles was at the nest atop the tall communications tower, and the other one
caught a fish.
Cheers!!
