Yesterday Jeff Lemons and I birded Lynnhaven Inlet and discovered a Marbled
Godwit in a 1st winter plumage . The bird is very washed out for a Marbled
Godwit plus the distance and sun glare didn't help with Id of this bird at
first. Other birds were 2 Forsters Tern , 11 Common Tern , 23 Sandwich Tern ,19
Black Skimmer , 57 Royal Tern , 14 Brown Pelican , 1 Least Tern , 1 Willet , 1
American Oystercatcher , 1 Greater Yellowlegs , 1 Short Billed Dowitcher and 2
Killdeer. Today I stopped by the inlet again and the Marbled Godwit was still
there . other birds were 1 Caspian Tern , 25 Common Tern , 1 Forsters Tern , 2
Least Tern , 27 Sandwich Tern , 78 Royal Tern , 9 killdeer and 11 Black Skimmer
.
Young Common Terns have been showing up on flats , yesterday was the first day
I saw them. I noticed there have not been many Least Terns resting on the flats
I'm hoping they have not failed at breeding and left the area .
Cheers
Andrew
